At Saahas Zero Waste, Arun Murugesh has developed and implemented business vertical that relates to extended producer responsibility for plastic waste and has been instrumental in setting up of a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) for management of different types of plastic and other non-biodegradable waste streams.
Arun started his career in the waste management industry in the UK working on projects involving mechanisation and compaction technologies. From the design of compaction equipment to an automated Material Recovery Facility, Arun has core competencies in the use of mechanization for recovery of resource from waste. Following this, Arun set up a reverse logistics system for the recycling of Thermacol (EPS) waste in Bangalore.
He has around 15 years of experience in the waste sector in India and the United Kingdom. Arun regularly interacts with different stakeholders in the dry waste value chain including the informal waste sector. In this context, he is leading the social inclusion initiative at Saahas Zero Waste that looks at various options of formalising informal waste entrepreneurs. He has a comprehensive understanding of the materials flow assessment, market opportunities, challenges, growth drivers and recycling market in India.
