Head of Climate & Energy, Ingka Group, strategic partner in the IKEA franchise system
Karol Gobczynski is the Head of Climate and Energy at Inkga Group, one of the companies that own and operate IKEA retail. Ingka Group is a strategic partner in the IKEA franchise system, operating 367 IKEA stores in 30 countries. Karol is accountable for establishing and implementing the overall climate and energy agenda at Ingka Group. This includes developing strategy, frameworks, projects and ways of reporting to secure that the company meets its climate goals, and contribute to IKEA Climate Positive ambition. Karol started his IKEA career working with integration of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures into the daily operations of IKEA suppliers in Central Europe. After 3 years, Karol became Energy and Climate Manager for IKEA Retail Poland. During his time in this role, he supported wind farm acquisitions, governance and operations which enabled IKEA businesses in Poland to generate more renewable energy than they consumed. Karol also worked for the democratisation of energy generation through the introduction of the IKEA Home Solar offer on the Polish market. Karol graduated from University of Iceland, The School for Renewable Energy Science. As part of his studies Karol conducted renewable energy research at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Portugal Program.
